TelefericQo

We had a wonderful day! We went on the teleferiQo in Quito.  It is gorgeous from the top.  You ride in the cable car to the start of the trails.  There are all kinds of trails you can hike.  The longest trail takes five hours and you get to see the place they call the pyramids, a bear cave, the biggest mountain in the area, and all kinds of other beautiful sights.  There are huts and little places for eating.  There is a church and you can rent horses to tour the mountains.  Everywhere you look there are beautiful mountains and you can even see the volcano in Cotopaxi.  We want to go to Cotopaxi and see the volcano and beautiful waterfalls one weekend soon.  On the top it was much colder than at the bottom so we were not fully prepared, but we did happen to have extra clothes for the kids.  With that said it was about 60-65 degrees on the top and many people had on winter coats, hats and gloves.  I guess they have not been in the snow before.  We hiked a part of the trail for about 3 hours and then headed down to get lunch since the kids could not walk any farther.  I am very excited to take David, Dad and Robbie back when they come because they will love it.  After a good lunch at our host family's and a little nap we headed out to Pizza Hut and finally got our pizza.  It was as good as I remember.  The kids ate more than I have ever seen them eat.  All in all it was a wonderful day!  It never ceases to amaze me the infinite beauty that God has given us and it also amazes me that so much of that beauty is still intact in an area like Quito that is so heavily populated.  You look down from the mountains and see thousands of houses and buildings and then look around and on all sides there are great expanses of land with no buildings and only beautiful land. What a blessing!
